Family Vacation Post #1

Here is a picture of the boat we got to spend a lovely 7 days on. February 11th we sat sail for an eastern caribbean cruise on the Holland America Eurodam. We wanted to take a vacation with all of the family since Brianna will be graduating this year. We were lucky because our neighbors, the Johnson's, decided to go with us.

You can see Jenny and Brent looking happy behind the sullen 15 year old boy. At least Bri knows how to smile. Nick was a little nervous to fly. He still hates heights.

This was Jacob's first experience with flying. He was so cute, he kept saying "this is so cool". For the first day he said the most favorite part was flying. It made it fun for all of us. Even the strangers sitting in front of us were cheering him on. We flew from SLC to Ft. Lauderdale on Friday and then spent the night before boarding the ship on Saturday.
Here's the crew, and all our luggage, getting ready to get on the ship. We didn't waste any time putting shorts on and enjoying the weather.
Here's the Oswald's on board the Eurodam. This is deck 3 and it goes all the way around the ship. You can see that there was a ship docked next to us. There were a bunch in this area getting ready to sail. As big as our ship was, it is only considered a midsize ship. There were 2,104 guests and 925 crew. If only nursing ratios could be that good. :)
Jacob didn't waste any time getting in the pool.............and eating. This is the definition of heaven, standing in a pool, on a cruise ship, eating pizza. It's good to be Jake.
Brianna and I didn't waste any time and got ice cream. She's just shoving the last of it in her mouth. We are on the top of the ship. We are still in Ft. Lauderdale and hadn't sat sail yet. This was just the beginning of our "we must eat every 2 hours or we'll die" mentality. We didn't die........

On the very top of the ship they have a basketball court. That's Kevin shooting some hoops. Pretty impressive how big those smoke stacks are. Nick, Jake and Braden spent time up here during the week. Holland America isn't really designed for kids, but they tried to provide stuff to keep them entertained. I'm sure glad that we were with the Johnson's, or I'm not sure this would have been as fun for the kids. The adults sure liked it.
The kids and us had ajoining rooms. We were able to open up our balconies so that it was one big balcony. It was so nice to have this private little spot to hang out. Notice, we are just above the life boats---good place to be.
We were at sea for a whole day on our way to Grand Turk, so the night before we got there was our first formal night. Kevin thinks he's so funny... It was fun because all the old people were so cute with these boys all dressed up and fancy. I can't remember what we ate, but every night it was AWESOME!

This is Grand Turk in Turks & Caicos islands. The water was so beautiful. Unfortunately, because of the wind, our snorkeling adventure was canceled. We made the most of it by hanging out at the beach. Here we are getting ready to disembark and go play.
Here's Brianna before and after her braiding adventure. They wanted $40 to do it and I negotiated for $30. I felt so clever..............
It was super cute and so easy to take care of. She was able to keep her hair like this for the entire cruise. Ciera got her's done too. I was jealous....
Living up to the "50 mile rule", Kevin went off the wagon and got himself some Coors Light.......water. It was the only carrier they had! He doesn't seem to mind much. So, at this point a good mother would have reminded her 11 year old to put on sunscreen, but we were so excited and having such fun....I forgot.
So, here's the consequeces. The poor white boy got fried. Thankfully, we were on our way to Puerto Rico and not another beach so he had a day to recover. We loaded him up with Benadryl and aloe vera and thankfully his vacation wasn't totally ruined. Hey, he could still eat.
More to come, I have to pace myself with posting since it's been so long. :)
